Cold Water Calling

December and early January were kind to us in the Northwest this year. It was cold but the lack of precipitation made for some low water and great fishing. There is something I love about fishing rivers when the snow is on the ground and ice fills the slow pools. The crowds are gone and you get a chance to experience a completely different river as the water level keeps dropping. The larger fish can get selective at times but that is what makes it even more of an experience as your presentation and fly choices can get put to the test. And yes you will battle freezing guides and hands for the first half of the day, but that magic couple of hours when everything comes alive on the river is well worth it. Oh and let’s not forget that fishing with your buddies any day of the year is kick ass fun!

Of course we can’t forget the winter fly tying sessions thrown into the end of the video. When cold weather hits around here you can be sure the guys will be at the table once a week throwing them back and planning the next trip. Lies, trash talking and beer… you can never get enough of that at the tying table and these boys never disappoint.
